Welcome to the quick start guide! You can also find a video tutorial for easy reference.
Before including a webpage on your page, there are a few things to check:
Firstly, ensure that your page is allowed to include other pages. You can use the free iframe checker available at http://www.tinywebgallery.com/blog/advanced-iframe/free-iframe-checker to verify this.
Secondly, confirm that the iframe page and the parent page belong to the same domain. Remember, domains such as www.example.com and text.example.com are considered different domains.
Next, determine the type of setup you have:
- If the iframe cannot be included, it means the content owner does not permit it.
- If the iframe can be included but you are on a different domain, refer to the feature comparison chart and features availability overview. To modify the content’s height/width or CSS, you need to add a single line of Javascript to the remote iframe page to enable the provided workaround.
- If the iframe can be included and you are on the same domain, you can utilize all features of the plugin.
Please refer to the feature comparison chart to see which features are available based on your setup. It is advisable to do this before making any purchase at http://www.tinywebgallery.com/blog/advanced-iframe/advanced-iframe-comparison-chart.
To insert a simple iframe, head to the administration and follow the instructions on the basic settings tab. There, you can either use a basic shortcode and configure settings in the administration or directly adjust the settings within the shortcode. Additionally, make sure to read the FAQ and explore the free and pro examples.
For advanced users with their own server, setting up a reverse proxy may be necessary if the iframe page is on a different domain and cannot use the external workaround. More detailed information can be found in the blog.
If you are mixing HTTP and HTTPS, I recommend reading the blog post for further insights. Please note that using parent HTTPS and iframe HTTP may not be compatible with all major browsers.
Now, let’s talk about installation. You can install the plugin in two ways:
- Use the default plugin installer of WordPress or upload the ‘advanced-iframe’ folder from the zip file to the ‘/wp-content/plugins’ directory. Ensure that the file ‘advanced-iframe.php’ is in the ‘/wp-content/plugins/advanced-iframe’ directory.
- Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in your WordPress dashboard.
To display the iframe, simply place the shortcode ‘[advanced_iframe]’ in your pages or posts. If required, you can find the optional security key at Settings -> Advanced iFrame Pro.
For upgrade/update instructions, here’s what you need to do:
-
If you are using WordPress 5.5 or newer, download the new version and install it. WordPress will detect the installed plugin and prompt you to update. Click ‘Yes’ to proceed. Please note that all settings will be stored in the database, so you won’t lose any data. However, remember to save the advanced iframe settings once to update the generated ai_external.js file to the latest version.
-
If you are using an older version or prefer a manual approach, download the zip file from CodeCanyon. Overwrite all files from your previous installation using FTP or uninstall the plugin (free or pro) and then install the new version again. The settings will remain intact in the database. If some radio elements are empty after the update, simply select the preferred option and save again.
To ensure the ai_external.js file is updated to the latest version, please save the advanced iframe settings. If you are using the external workaround on production systems, it is recommended to add a version counter to the ai_external.js file to avoid caching, for example: ‘…/ai_external.js?version=6’.
If you’re looking for live demos, you can find working examples of most of the main features in the pro demo. These examples serve as a great starting point for the specific features you want to use.
For administration tasks, navigate to Settings -> Advanced iFrame Pro. There you will find all the attributes related to Advanced iFrame Pro. If you are using a single iframe, it’s best to configure the settings in the administration, as each parameter is explained in detail and default values are set there.
